On a Bucket
01:03
|
|||
Yelling at storm clouds to wait
I'm grilling sausages and yelling at approaching storm clouds to wait
I'm caught in a spiderweb
just sitting on a bucket

Scenes from a Cape Cod
02:05
|
|||
There're fireworks again in south Allentown
I smoke my last cigar then clean up the leaves I tracked in from the yard
The mint I mix in my mouth with the cinnamon smoke
I can see how the sun burned me while cleaning the windows
and how it turns your hair burgundy
when we sat next to that curated pond
You said you liked the pond better this way
I say "I don't know. I kinda like both"

At the Pump
01:03
|
|||
I'm driving through the strip mall at the Fogelsville Weis
Making my way to the pump I approach a face that's familiar
It's my Aunt
I give her a wave
I drift to the pump and there again is a familiar place
He watched me grow up at church
He smiles pointing away and asks
"Did you?
I say "Yep"
He said "Did you see her?"
and I say "yeah, yeah, yeah. we waved"
"Small world" he goes
and we shoot the shit 'til our tanks fill
His son's in the Boy Scouts now while his daughter dances
He says "Well, tell everyone hi" as he pulls his truck away
and when I saw my family I forgot
So Mom and Dad, Craig said hi

Me & the Elderly
03:36
|
|||
Maybe this song's not an epic
Maybe it's just something that rambles along
Maybe this songs not an epic
There's nothing epic about what I've been doing here,
been doing here for so long
just me & the elderly
just me & the elderly
sitting at HamFam
talking about what's going on
talking to waitress thinking maybe there's something going on there between us
I don't know what that says about me
about me & the elderly
There was this one girl
I was talking with her over there in Java Time
I was talking about how I'm always with the elderly
She just kinda smiled and gave me some advise
She said "If they ever give you attitude just give it right back"
That's what she told me about me & the elderly
Well I kinda knew that already
Me & the elderly
I knew that already
There was this one guy
I worked with him at LCTI
Oh, what was his name...
Ah, what was his name.
C'mon you know
Well him and I,
him and I were me & the elderly
Some smartass he was
Just me & the elderly
His name was Old Tim
Not to confuse him 60 year old Tim
But this was Old Tim and he was about 76
He always told me to go fuck off
me & Old Tim
Yeah, me and Old Tim
Me & the elderly
Everyday it's just me
They all call me elderly
I don't think they knew they were in this song

The waitress calls me honey
She talks quietly
then limps into the kitchen she sings
"Should I put a pot of coffee on?
"It's your section, and I'm not telling you how to do your job"
A young server looks and laughs, she sings
"Do I smell?
I just got a new brand of deodorant and I don't think it's really working for me,
This place has cleared out"

Morey's Pier
01:23
|
|||
Seagulls fly
in the light of Morey's Pier and become stars
'round the crescent moon there
You and I stand barefoot in the black Jeresy water
while the local beach police shine their high beams
across the empty sand
You tell me that you tell me too much
Light frames your eye
I smile
You say that it hurts

Amish Village Kitchen

|

At the Amish Village Kitchen
they've got these homemade recipes
When I sit down the server, he knows me
He brings me a hamburger, a french fry and a water
We nod our heads
East towards Ritz Barbeque again
the radio is playing Earth Angel
I listen and toss some rocks around to kill the time
Maybe later I'll get ice cream
Yesterday they paid me on Werley's Farm
I'm hot and I got some cash to burn

Psalms 23
01:44
|
|||
Yocco's is my shepherd
I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
He leadeth me beside the still waters
He restoreth my soul
and He leadeth me down the path of righteousness for His names sake
And though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil for thou art with me
and Thy beef and Thy dog, it doth comfort me
He preparest a table before me in the presents of Thy enemies
And he anointest my head in oil
and my cup runneth over
Surely the goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life
and I will dwell
in the house of Yocco's forever

In the Backyard
01:43
|
|||
My favorite kind of weather
is when there are sudden squalls of rain
that last for a half an hour or a second or two
I can see storm clouds in the distance
that only partially block the sun
and drift above
The yard that's filled with sunlight
and the dirt that's filled up with water
and, oh, the breeze is so soft and cool
You can stand out in the rain when it falls
and you
don't worry about dying from pneumonia
Cos it's all just a rinse
It's all just one big rinse
and you know how I love a rinse
I love when a shower's just a rinse

To You, From the Bay
04:17
|
|||
I walk along the day
Last time I was here was with you
I wiped the sand off your ginger ale can
The reason I'm by the bay
and not in my usual spot
is to meet a friend for drinks
Dad calls him Acorn
I sometimes call him Bobby
He's a little late
On the drive here I didn't use a GPS
We're meeting at Harpoons
I've never been
but i figured I would find
But when I was on Beach Avenue the bay just smelled so good
I had to stop
Not to mention Bright Eyes was playing and I felt like I needed it
Anyway, I parked and sat on a bench quick
just to see how far the place is
It was only two blocks away and I thought that was pretty lucky
You're in Stone Harbor
I knew you'd be
as I'm sure you know all about me
hanging out in Wildwood
for Brad's 32nd birthday

I Never Knew

I never knew
white birches shed their bark like snake skin
It's lying all over the road
from the wind
It's lying all over the road

Hamilton Park
04:11
|

I can hear the Allentown Fair from my backyard
I can hear kids playing football in the road
I can hear the neighbor weedwacking
It’s 8pm
I can hear a small fire burn paper thin
I hear a lot of shouting
I don’t think it’s the fair at all
I walk toward the sound coming from Cedar Beach
I don’t know the streets too well
I just moved here
They all seem to web into one another
They all go all around
I nod at some passersbys. They smile
I admire a house that’s been sold for ⅔ of a million
A family encourages a boy with his toy gun standing in the road to go “pew pew pew pew pew pew”
all over, all over the road
Three cars drift through a stop sign
I can’t make my way to the beach
So I turn into a park of which I don’t know the name
with one parked SUV
I no two seconds later find the owner who is hunched over watching the playback on his buddy/videographer’s camera
There’s a series of pictures of his figure ascending a stone stepped hill in his bleached suit, his bleached pants, his bleached vest, his bleached tie
And one diamond earring
I make my way to back the house
As a projected voice asks if we’re ready to run
The house numbers go up from 2040
and I imagine my life at that age.
I guess I’d be 46
Carved in cement is Proverbs 3: 5-6
and Exodus 20: 8-11
I went to Sunday School but I don’t know what they say, I don’t know what those mean
The houses on Fairview go down from 2114
And I imagine what it’s like to be dead
There’s a woman out watering her flowers
She says hi
I say it’s a beautiful night
She says I hope you enjoy it
And I wish her the same
